Silverton's New Official Community Plan & Zoning Bylaw has been adopted!
The Village of Silverton adopted Official Community Plan (OCP) Bylaw No. 562, 2026 on August 19, 2026.
The Village of Silverton adopted Zoning Bylaw No. 563, 2026 on September 11, 2026.
The OCP and Zoning Bylaw are the two primary documents that guide how our community grows and changes over the next 10 to 20 years.
Silverton’s OCP provides direction for:
- Where and how housing may be accommodated
- Land use and future development
- Infrastructure and community services
- Environmental protection and natural hazards
- Economic development and local business
- Parks, recreation, heritage, and community facilities
- Transportation, walkability, and public access
- Silverton’s small-village character
The OCP provides high-level policy direction. It does not generally regulate individual properties in the same way as the Zoning Bylaw.
The Zoning Bylaw is the regulatory document used to help implement the OCP. It establishes detailed rules for matters such as:
- Permitted land uses
- Building locations and setbacks
- Building height
- Parcel coverage
- Density
- Accessory buildings and uses
- Home-based businesses
- Parking and access requirements
Updating the Zoning Bylaw will help ensure Silverton’s land use regulations are consistent with the newly adopted OCP, current provincial requirements, and the needs of the community.
